Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English

Association #19
Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English (ACCUTE)
Conference dates:
Saturday, May 29, 2021 to Tuesday, June 1, 2021
To attend this conference, register for Congress and add ACCUTE #19 in Section 3 of the registration form.
Registration is required for all conference attendees, including speakers, presenters, panelists, organizers and those chairing or attending a session.

Despite the pandemic, ACCUTE has a robust program for our first online event in our 63-year history. With over 200 presenters scheduled to come, we will offer a full slate of papers and presentations on all areas of English Studies in Canada.

We have confirmed keynote plenaries by:

Michael Bucknor (Senior Lecturer, University West Indies),

Marilyn Dumont (Poet, University of Alberta),

and a special event called "'If there is any justice': a dialogic series of talks and performances by Black Canadian and Indigenous Poets," co-coordinated by Jordan Abel (Professor, University of Alberta) and Karina Vernon (Professor, University of Toronto).

In the latter event, poets will perform their work and present a short, prepared talk on the work of another poet in the event. Each poet will thus read, give a talk, and have their work spoken about. These events highlight ACCUTE's commitment to the theme of Northern Relations, and the priority areas of Indigenous decolonialization and Anti-Black racism. As is custom, ACCUTE will also host a series of Board-sponsored panels, workshops, and roundtable discussions on professional concerns, creative writing, and ACCUTE caucuses.

Details of the program will follow. Please be aware that normal presentation times will be shortened to suit an online event.
